Forget planking, the latest internet sensation to provide workers with a little comedy amusement the likes of which Reeves and Mortimer would be proud of during their lunch breaks is the craze now widely referred to as leisure diving.

Following the philosophy of “live and let dive”, those who indulge in a spot of leisure diving attempt to perfect the art of striking an amusing pose mid-air after jumping off a diving board. Those who have been following the craze for a while now have come to a consensus regarding the ideal pose to strike during the few seconds between leaving the diving board and splashing into the water, and it would seem that the more laid-back you can appear, the more respect you’ll gain among the leisure diving community.

Divers are also judged on how parallel their hips are to the water’s surface; wonky divers beware, you won’t be accepted into this most exclusive of comedy communities.

As well as requiring comedy timing and a touch of flexibility, leisure diving also requires you to have a friend who is more comfortable than the average Joe with a camera in hand. There are only a few seconds in the window of opportunity to get the perfect shot, so this isn’t an activity for those who only possess a disposable camera.

If planking, in your opinion, is so 2010 and you do decide to indulge in a spot of leisure diving this summer, just make sure the pool is empty before you dive in, or you may become the enemy of the poolside community!
